Where is Fattewala?

Fattewala is a village in Zira tehsil of Ferozepur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mallanwala Khass, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Makhu community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034300, and it covers 232 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 901 people in Fattewala: 464 men and 437 women, living in 161 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 232 hectares, the population density works out to about 388 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 942 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 130, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 278 people, about 31 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 61.87 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 69.05 per cent and women at 54.47 per cent. The census recorded 296 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 196 main workers, the largest group, 162, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 24 other workers in trade, transport and services and 10 agricultural labourers. A further 100 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (224 hectares). About 8 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. The directory recorded Mallanwala Khass, about 2 kilometres away, as the nearest town, and the nearest railway station was five to ten kilometres away. Zira, the tehsil headquarters, and Ferozepur town, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Alewala, Mashieke, Tanna Bagga and Ashieke.
