Where is Karmuwala?

Karmuwala is a village of Firozpur tehsil in Ferozepur district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Talwandi Bhai, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ghall Khurd community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034469, and it covers 1,193 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,940 people in Karmuwala: 1,020 men and 920 women, living in 376 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 1,193 hectares, the population density works out to about 163 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 902 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 253, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 540 people, about 28 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.69 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.89 per cent and women at 62.06 per cent. The census recorded 682 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. A further 70 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
