Where is Nizamwala?

Nizamwala is a village in Firozpur tehsil of Ferozepur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Firozpur, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Firozpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034555, and it covers 518 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,072 people in Nizamwala: 530 men and 542 women, living in 192 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 518 hectares, the population density works out to about 207 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1023 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 133, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 588 people, about 55 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 71.18 per cent and women at 60.13 per cent. The census recorded 305 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 296 main workers, the largest group, 126, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 106 agricultural labourers and 63 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 9 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (24 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (438 hectares). About 56 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 6 hours a day. With 127 cultivators and 110 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

The directory recorded Firozpur, about 14 kilometres away, as the nearest town, and the nearest railway station was within five kilometres. Firozpur, the tehsil headquarters, and Ferozepur town, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Usmanwala, Baghewala, Sultanwala and Arif Ke.
