Chhotepur is a village in Gurdaspur tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dhariwal, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhariwal community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028041, and it covers 147 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,109 people in Chhotepur: 609 men and 500 women, living in 186 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 147 hectares, the population density works out to about 754 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 821 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 156, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 225 people, about 20 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.33 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.62 per cent and women at 71.2 per cent. The census recorded 677 workers, about 61 per cent of the village. Of the 320 main workers, the largest group, 142, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 123 cultivators on their own land and 47 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 357 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
