Ajjowal is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-I community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031467, and it covers 336 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,970 people in Ajjowal: 2,080 men and 1,890 women, living in 836 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 336 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,182 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 909 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 517, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,912 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 73.3 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 74.89 per cent and women at 71.56 per cent.
