Where is Atbarapur?

Atbarapur is a village in Hoshiarpur tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Hariana, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhunga community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031358, and it covers 665 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 546 people in Atbarapur: 272 men and 274 women, living in 116 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 665 hectares, the population density works out to about 82 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1007 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 59, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 91 people, about 17 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.96 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.02 per cent and women at 80.08 per cent. The census recorded 126 workers, about 23 per cent of the village. Of the 115 main workers, the largest group, 60, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 38 other workers in trade, transport and services and 14 agricultural labourers. A further 11 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (114 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (61 hectares). About 473 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
