Where is Kalewal?

Kalewal is a village of Garhshankar tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mahilpur, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Mahilpur community development block and is served by the Kalewal Fattu gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031807, and it covers 82 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 292 people in Kalewal: 152 men and 140 women, living in 71 households, an average of about 4.1 people per household. Spread over its 82 hectares, the population density works out to about 356 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 921 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 26, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 167 people, about 57 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
