Where is Kharaudi?

Kharaudi is a village of Garhshankar tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mahilpur, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Mahilpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031894, and it covers 136 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 806 people in Kharaudi: 401 men and 405 women, living in 188 households, an average of about 4.3 people per household. Spread over its 136 hectares, the population density works out to about 593 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1010 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 93, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 371 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.1 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.57 per cent and women at 74.72 per cent. The census recorded 282 workers, about 35 per cent of the village.
