Paldi is a village of Garhshankar tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mahilpur, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Mahilpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031895, and it covers 207 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,010 people in Paldi: 480 men and 530 women, living in 230 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 207 hectares, the population density works out to about 488 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1104 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 98, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 403 people, about 40 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.99 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.15 per cent and women at 76.62 per cent. The census recorded 281 workers, about 28 per cent of the village.
