Where is Korala Kalan?

Korala Kalan is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Tanda community development block and is served by the Korala--Kalan,Patti Pla Chak gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030807, and it covers 351 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,425 people in Korala Kalan: 727 men and 698 women, living in 330 households, an average of about 4.3 people per household. Spread over its 351 hectares, the population density works out to about 406 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 960 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 135, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 333 people, about 23 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 90.78 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 94.57 per cent and women at 86.98 per cent. The census recorded 555 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. A further 69 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
