Where is Lodhi Chak?

Lodhi Chak is a village in Dasua tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Tanda community development block and is served by the Lodhi--Chak gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030843, and it covers 153 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 803 people in Lodhi Chak: 412 men and 391 women, living in 184 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 153 hectares, the population density works out to about 525 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 50, about 6 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 180 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 91.1 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 95.1 per cent and women at 86.85 per cent. The census recorded 264 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 234 main workers, the largest group, 129, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 65 cultivators on their own land and 30 agricultural labourers. A further 30 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Lodhi Chak's land. Of the village's 153 hectares, 131 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (131 hectares). About 22 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. The directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 4 kilometres away, as the nearest town, and the nearest railway station was more than ten kilometres away. Dasua, the tehsil headquarters, and Hoshiarpur city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Darga Heri, Gahot, Korala Khurd and Harsi Pind.
