Where is Harsi Pind?

Harsi Pind is a village in Dasua tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Tanda community development block and is served by the Harsi--Pind gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030845, and it covers 430 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,957 people in Harsi Pind: 1,519 men and 1,438 women, living in 655 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 430 hectares, the population density works out to about 688 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 947 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 288, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,088 people, about 37 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.8 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.44 per cent and women at 77.98 per cent. The census recorded 1,477 workers, about 50 per cent of the village. Of the 1,206 main workers, the largest group, 855, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 166 cultivators on their own land and 149 agricultural labourers. A further 271 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
