Where is Naugarain?

Naugarain is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-I community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031552, and it covers 85 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 283 people in Naugarain: 156 men and 127 women, living in 54 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 85 hectares, the population density works out to about 333 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 814 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 24, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 122 people, about 43 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.26 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.28 per cent and women at 83.48 per cent. The census recorded 121 workers, about 43 per cent of the village.
