Where is Rai Chak?

Rai Chak is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dasua, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dasua community development block and is served by the Rai--Chak gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031010, and it covers 60 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 415 people in Rai Chak: 214 men and 201 women, living in 81 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 60 hectares, the population density works out to about 692 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 939 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 39, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 78 people, about 19 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.53 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.3 per cent and women at 70.22 per cent. The census recorded 331 workers, about 80 per cent of the village. A further 73 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (14 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (25 hectares). About 20 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
