Where is Terkiana?

Terkiana is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dasua, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dasua community development block and is served by the Basti Nawab Terkian gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030748, and it covers 725 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,743 people in Terkiana: 1,875 men and 1,868 women, living in 777 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 725 hectares, the population density works out to about 516 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 996 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 426, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 692 people, about 18 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.51 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 88.36 per cent and women at 76.84 per cent. The census recorded 1,071 workers, about 29 per cent of the village.
