Where is Urmar?

Urmar is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Tanda community development block and is served by the Urmar,Basti Bazigar gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030714, and it covers 801 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,254 people in Urmar: 640 men and 614 women, living in 261 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 801 hectares, the population density works out to about 157 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 959 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 173, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 484 people, about 39 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
