Where is Dhogri?

Dhogri is a village in Jalandhar West tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Adampur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030479, and it covers 268 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 4,280 people in Dhogri: 2,267 men and 2,013 women, living in 914 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 268 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,597 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 888 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 505, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,514 people, about 59 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.33 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.23 per cent and women at 72.8 per cent. The census recorded 1,475 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 1,286 main workers, the largest group, 768, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 296 agricultural labourers and 186 cultivators on their own land. A further 189 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
