Where is Kotla Heran?

Kotla Heran is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Lohian Khass, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nakodar community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029854, and it covers 210 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 750 people in Kotla Heran: 357 men and 393 women, living in 159 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 210 hectares, the population density works out to about 357 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1101 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 79, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 187 people, about 25 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 74.52 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 77.78 per cent and women at 71.63 per cent. The census recorded 247 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. A further 59 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
