Where is Padhiana?

Padhiana is a village of Jalandhar East tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Adampur, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Adampur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030285, and it covers 889 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,879 people in Padhiana: 1,419 men and 1,460 women, living in 683 households, an average of about 4.2 people per household. Spread over its 889 hectares, the population density works out to about 324 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1029 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 220, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,071 people, about 37 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 88.76 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 93.92 per cent and women at 83.82 per cent. The census recorded 904 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 727 main workers, the largest group, 530, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 157 cultivators on their own land and 29 agricultural labourers.
