Where is Samrari?

Samrari is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030162, and it covers 569 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,024 people in Samrari: 1,041 men and 983 women, living in 433 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 569 hectares, the population density works out to about 356 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 944 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 221, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 886 people, about 44 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.42 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.01 per cent and women at 75.6 per cent.
