Where is Singhpur?

Singhpur is a village of Nakodar tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nakodar, about 21 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nakodar community development block and is served by the Singhpur Bet gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029981, and it covers 240 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,035 people in Singhpur: 537 men and 498 women, living in 194 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 240 hectares, the population density works out to about 431 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 927 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 150, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 478 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.77 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.4 per cent and women at 72.73 per cent. The census recorded 321 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 302 main workers, the largest group, 126, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 104 cultivators on their own land and 71 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 19 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
