Kalasanghian is a village of Kapurthala tehsil in Kapurthala district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Kapurthala, about 19 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Kapurthala community development block and is served by the Kalasanghia gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029315, and it covers 507 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,159 people in Kalasanghian: 1,105 men and 1,054 women, living in 466 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 507 hectares, the population density works out to about 426 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 954 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 192, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 747 people, about 35 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.53 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.74 per cent and women at 74.23 per cent. The census recorded 745 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 517 main workers, the largest group, 267, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 224 cultivators on their own land and 24 agricultural labourers. A further 228 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (441 hectares). About 66 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Neighbouring villages include Samailpur, Jalowal, Rampur and Madhopur (Kapurthala).
