Where is Nadala?

Nadala is a village of Bhulath tehsil in Kapurthala district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bhulath, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nadala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028996, and it covers 1,176 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 6,733 people in Nadala: 3,531 men and 3,202 women, living in 1,437 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 1,176 hectares, the population density works out to about 573 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 907 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 685, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,270 people, about 19 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.25 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.08 per cent and women at 78.16 per cent. The census recorded 2,307 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 2,062 main workers, the largest group, 1,442, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 462 cultivators on their own land and 103 agricultural labourers. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 479 cultivators and 204 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
