The 2011 directory recorded Sultanpur Lodhi, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sultanpur Lodhi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029423, and it covers 224 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 678 people in Sarai Jattan: 336 men and 342 women, living in 136 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 224 hectares, the population density works out to about 302 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1018 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 91, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 286 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.14 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 74.23 per cent and women at 62.16 per cent. The census recorded 219 workers, about 32 per cent of the village.
