Where is Ajlaud?

Ajlaud is a village in Samrala tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Samrala, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samrala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033161, and it covers 193 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 934 people in Ajlaud: 462 men and 472 women, living in 173 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 193 hectares, the population density works out to about 484 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1022 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 80, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 361 people, about 39 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.66 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 91.47 per cent and women at 78.01 per cent. The census recorded 257 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 237 main workers, the largest group, 136, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 63 cultivators on their own land and 30 household industry workers. A further 20 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (171 hectares). About 22 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
