Where is Aluna Tolla?

Aluna Tolla is a village of Payal tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Payal, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khanna community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033262, and it covers 330 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,190 people in Aluna Tolla: 624 men and 566 women, living in 250 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 330 hectares, the population density works out to about 361 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 907 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 105, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 613 people, about 52 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.79 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.95 per cent and women at 71.04 per cent. The census recorded 366 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 350 main workers, the largest group, 124, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 114 agricultural labourers and 101 cultivators on their own land. A further 16 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Land and farming

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (294 hectares). About 36 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Neighbouring villages include Deva Khosa, Karoundian, Deva Mander and Daumajra.
