Dhamot is a village of Payal tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Payal, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Doraha community development block and is served by the Dhamot ,Dhamot Khurd ,Bhadewal gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033267, and it covers 1,941 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 6,629 people in Dhamot: 3,501 men and 3,128 women, living in 1,327 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 1,941 hectares, the population density works out to about 342 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 893 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 576, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,880 people, about 28 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.55 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.06 per cent and women at 73.64 per cent. The census recorded 3,473 workers, about 52 per cent of the village. Of the 2,537 main workers, the largest group, 1,221, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 742 cultivators on their own land and 360 agricultural labourers. A further 936 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
