Where is Poonian?

Poonian is a village of Samrala tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Machhiwara, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Machhiwara community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033087, and it covers 445 hectares.

The 2011 census counted 1,276 people in Poonian: 662 men and 614 women, living in 240 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household.
