Where is Bhama Kalan?

Bhama Kalan is a village of Sardulgarh tehsil in Mansa district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mansa, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jhunir community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035936, and it covers 1,086 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,520 people in Bhama Kalan: 1,913 men and 1,607 women, living in 689 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 1,086 hectares, the population density works out to about 324 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 840 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 354, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,149 people, about 33 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 53.51 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 58.46 per cent and women at 47.66 per cent. The census recorded 1,593 workers, about 45 per cent of the village.
