The 2011 census counted 2,001 people in Kanakwal Chahlan: 1,051 men and 950 women, living in 349 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 577 hectares, the population density works out to about 347 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 904 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 222, about 11 per cent of the village.
