Where is Bhaikha?

Bhaikha is a village of Bagha Purana tehsil in Moga district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bagha Purana, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Moga-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033983, and it covers 405 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,427 people in Bhaikha: 722 men and 705 women, living in 274 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 405 hectares, the population density works out to about 352 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 976 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 152, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 436 people, about 31 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 73.88 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 78.36 per cent and women at 69.27 per cent. The census recorded 861 workers, about 60 per cent of the village. Of the 809 main workers, the largest group, 478, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 207 cultivators on their own land and 92 agricultural labourers. A further 52 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (252 hectares). About 28 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
