Where is Smalsar?

Smalsar is a village of Bagha Purana tehsil in Moga district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bagha Purana, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Baghapurana community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033967, and it covers 2,893 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 11,189 people in Smalsar: 5,900 men and 5,289 women, living in 2,114 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 2,893 hectares, the population density works out to about 387 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 896 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 1,094, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 4,623 people, about 41 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 70.67 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 74.24 per cent and women at 66.69 per cent.
