History
Moga is a major Malwa city and district headquarters. On 24 November 1995, Moga district was carved out of Faridkot, and the city became its administrative centre.
In 1961 Nestlé set up its first Indian dairy plant at Moga — the company's beginning in India — giving the region's milk economy a new direction. Moga's grain market grew into one of Punjab's largest, and the city became the commercial capital of the surrounding districts.
Geography & people
Moga stands between Ludhiana and Ferozepur, in wheat, paddy and cotton country. The 2011 census counted 163,397 people. The city is the administrative, educational and commercial centre for its district, with colleges, hospitals and courts serving a wide area.
Places of interest
The grain market, the railway station and the city's gurdwaras anchor Moga. The Nestlé plant marks the city's industrial history, and the mandi in harvest season is a sight in itself.
Notable people

ਮੋਗਾ ਮਾਲਵੇ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਸਦਰ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਹੈ। 24 ਨਵੰਬਰ 1995 ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਮੋਗਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
1961 ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇਸਲੇ ਨੇ ਮੋਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡੇਅਰੀ ਪਲਾਂਟ ਲਗਾਇਆ — ਇਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁੱਧ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਮਿਲੀ। ਮੋਗਾ ਦੀ ਅਨਾਜ ਮੰਡੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਮੰਡੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।
