Where is Burj Duna?

Burj Duna is a village of Nihal Singh Wala tehsil in Moga district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Badhni Kalan, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nihal Singhwala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033923, and it covers 373 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,482 people in Burj Duna: 763 men and 719 women, living in 294 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 373 hectares, the population density works out to about 397 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 942 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 160, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 399 people, about 27 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 72.16 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 77.21 per cent and women at 66.67 per cent. The census recorded 412 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 292 main workers, the largest group, 164, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 73 other workers in trade, transport and services and 34 agricultural labourers. A further 120 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
