The village falls in the Baghapurana community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033937, and it covers 2,058 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 7,140 people in Gholia Kalan: 3,821 men and 3,319 women, living in 1,436 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 2,058 hectares, the population density works out to about 347 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 869 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 734, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 3,067 people, about 43 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.2 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 71.28 per cent and women at 62.54 per cent. The census recorded 2,325 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 1,618 main workers, the largest group, 639, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 586 cultivators on their own land and 349 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 707 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
