Mahdeoke is a village of Nihal Singh Wala tehsil in Moga district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nihal Singhwala, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nihal Singhwala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033913, and it covers 833 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,588 people in Mahdeoke: 1,386 men and 1,202 women, living in 481 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 833 hectares, the population density works out to about 311 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 867 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 283, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 901 people, about 35 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.42 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.52 per cent and women at 62.57 per cent. The census recorded 1,320 workers, about 51 per cent of the village. Of the 1,280 main workers, the largest group, 437, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 333 household industry workers and 307 agricultural labourers. A further 40 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
