Where is Anehar?

Anehar is a village in Pathankot tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Pathankot community development block and is served by the Anerh gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027507, and it covers 186 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,046 people in Anehar: 536 men and 510 women, living in 214 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 186 hectares, the population density works out to about 562 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 951 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 106, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 496 people, about 47 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.21 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.29 per cent and women at 79.82 per cent. The census recorded 309 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 236 main workers, the largest group, 162, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 50 cultivators on their own land and 24 agricultural labourers. A further 73 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (34 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (25 hectares). About 73 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 16 hours a day. With 63 cultivators and 28 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
