Where is Datyal?

Datyal is a village of Pathankot tehsil in Pathankot district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 25 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Narot Jaimal Singh community development block and is served by the Datial gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027725, and it covers 132 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 817 people in Datyal: 430 men and 387 women, living in 167 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 132 hectares, the population density works out to about 619 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 109, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 627 people, about 77 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 76.69 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.11 per cent and women at 70.8 per cent. The census recorded 217 workers, about 27 per cent of the village. A further 30 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (118 hectares). About 14 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
