Where is Dhenthal?

Dhenthal is a village in Samana tehsil of Patiala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Samana, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samana community development block and is served by the Dhanthal gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036225, and it covers 496 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,463 people in Dhenthal: 763 men and 700 women, living in 282 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 496 hectares, the population density works out to about 295 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 917 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 177, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 209 people, about 14 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.11 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.64 per cent and women at 63.25 per cent. The census recorded 445 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 438 main workers, the largest group, 201, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 181 other workers in trade, transport and services and 31 agricultural labourers. A further 7 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
