Where is Main?

Main is a village of Patiala tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patiala, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sanaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036602, and it covers 434 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,187 people in Main: 1,200 men and 987 women, living in 461 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 434 hectares, the population density works out to about 504 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 822 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 244, about 11 per cent of the village.
