Where is Pandtan?

Pandtan is a village of Rajpura tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Rajpura, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ghanaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036908, and it covers 191 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,036 people in Pandtan: 541 men and 495 women, living in 196 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 191 hectares, the population density works out to about 542 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 915 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 159, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 603 people, about 58 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.25 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.39 per cent and women at 59.47 per cent. The census recorded 317 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (175 hectares). About 16 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Neighbouring villages include Ajrawar, Kheri Mandlan, Mandauli and Shahpur Afghanan.
