Where is Attari?

Attari is a village of Anandpur Sahib tehsil in Rupnagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Anandpur Sahib, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Rupnagar community development block and is served by the Attari Lower gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038530, and it covers 134 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,673 people in Attari: 849 men and 824 women, living in 278 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 134 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,249 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 971 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 172, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 211 people, about 13 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.28 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.69 per cent and women at 73.72 per cent. Irrigation came mainly from canals (134 hectares). Farm power supply was recorded at 9 hours a day. With 146 cultivators and 42 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

Anandpur Sahib, the tehsil headquarters, and Rupnagar city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Hardo Haripur, Hardo Namoh, Mianpur Handur and Dadhi.
