The village falls in the Chamkaur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038826, and it covers 378 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,202 people in Mahtot: 644 men and 558 women, living in 202 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 378 hectares, the population density works out to about 318 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 866 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 126, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 518 people, about 43 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
