Where is Pachranda?

Pachranda is a village in Anandpur Sahib tehsil of Rupnagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Anandpur Sahib, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nurpur Bedi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038380, and it covers 98 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 696 people in Pachranda: 352 men and 344 women, living in 140 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 98 hectares, the population density works out to about 710 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 977 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 87, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 145 people, about 21 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.16 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.3 per cent and women at 68.87 per cent. The census recorded 220 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 218 main workers, the largest group, 149, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 67 cultivators on their own land and 2 agricultural labourers. Farming covers most of Pachranda's land. Of the village's 98 hectares, 77 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 71 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (71 hectares). About 14 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 14 hours a day. With 68 cultivators and 2 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

The directory recorded Anandpur Sahib, about 10 kilometres away, as the nearest town, and the nearest railway station was more than ten kilometres away. Anandpur Sahib, the tehsil headquarters, and Rupnagar city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Jhangrian, Thana, Sakhpur and Barian.
