Where is Sarangpur?

Sarangpur is a village of Chamkaur Sahib tehsil in Rupnagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Chamkaur Sahib, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chamkaur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038810, and it covers 68 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 228 people in Sarangpur: 126 men and 102 women, living in 51 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 68 hectares, the population density works out to about 335 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 810 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 29, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 168 people, about 74 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
