Where is Phassa?

Phassa is a village of Chamkaur Sahib tehsil in Rupnagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Chamkaur Sahib, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chamkaur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038811, and it covers 336 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 225 people in Phassa: 127 men and 98 women, living in 48 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 336 hectares, the population density works out to about 67 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 772 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 22, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 142 people, about 63 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.86 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.48 per cent and women at 64.37 per cent. The census recorded 92 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. A further 29 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
