Where is Ambchhapa?

Ambchhapa is a village of Dera Bassi tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dera Bassi, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dera Bassi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039295, and it covers 95 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 381 people in Ambchhapa: 204 men and 177 women, living in 62 households, an average of about 6.1 people per household. Spread over its 95 hectares, the population density works out to about 401 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 868 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 42, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 76 people, about 20 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Dera Bassi, the tehsil headquarters, and Mohali, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Jeoli, Jandli, Chhachhrauli and Tarrak.
