Where is Boothgarh?

Boothgarh is a village of Kharar tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Kurali, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Majri community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039083, and it covers 133 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 618 people in Boothgarh: 348 men and 270 women, living in 126 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 133 hectares, the population density works out to about 465 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 776 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 50, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 201 people, about 33 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.74 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 88.09 per cent and women at 82.73 per cent. The census recorded 229 workers, about 37 per cent of the village. Kharar, the tehsil headquarters, and Mohali, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Bazidpur, Kartarpur, Dhakoran Khurd and Takipur.
