Where is Salempur Kalan?

Salempur Kalan is a village in Kharar tehsil of SAS Nagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Kurali, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Majri community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039021, and it covers 135 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 482 people in Salempur Kalan: 273 men and 209 women, living in 88 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 135 hectares, the population density works out to about 357 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 766 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 34, about 7 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 55 people, about 11 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.28 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.8 per cent and women at 82.83 per cent. The census recorded 136 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Kharar, the tehsil headquarters, and Mohali, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Mundhon Sangtian, Thana Gobindgarh, Mundhon Bhag Singh and Barsalpur.
