Where is Tasimbli?

Tasimbli is a village of Dera Bassi tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dera Bassi, about 25 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dera Bassi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039266, and it covers 573 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,075 people in Tasimbli: 1,145 men and 930 women, living in 365 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 573 hectares, the population density works out to about 362 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 812 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 222, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 328 people, about 16 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 76.85 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.04 per cent and women at 70.5 per cent. The census recorded 841 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. Of the 657 main workers, the largest group, 417, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 188 cultivators on their own land and 46 agricultural labourers. A further 184 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Dera Bassi, the tehsil headquarters, and Mohali, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Basauli, Hamayunpur, Kasauli and Doshpur.
